If you use a Garmin chest strap with our Group Fitness app or with your coach’s class setup, you may be asked for your sensor’s ANT+ ID — the unique number that identifies your heart rate monitor so the system always picks up your signal and not your neighbor’s.
There’s just one catch: Garmin doesn’t print this number anywhere on the strap. Don’t worry — finding it takes less than a minute. Here are the easiest ways, starting with the simplest.
Method 1: Read It from Your Phone (Bluetooth Name)
If you have a modern dual-protocol Garmin strap — HRM-Dual, HRM-Pro, HRM-Pro Plus, HRM-Fit, HRM 200, or HRM 600 — the ANT+ ID is hidden in plain sight: it’s part of the Bluetooth name your strap broadcasts.
- Put the strap on. Garmin monitors only transmit when they detect skin contact. (Tip: touching both snap contacts with damp fingers also wakes it up.)
- On your phone, open Settings → Bluetooth. Your phone automatically scans for nearby sensors — no extra app needed. On iPhone, look under “Other Devices”; on Android, tap “Pair new device” if the list doesn’t appear right away.
- Look for a device named something like
HRM-Dual:1234567orHRM-Pro:9876543. There’s no need to tap or pair it — just read the name. - The number after the colon is your ANT+ ID. Write it down — it never changes for the life of the strap.
If you’re in a busy gym and see several straps, yours will be the one with the strongest signal, since it’s on your chest. Step a few meters away from other people to be sure.
Method 2: Check Your Garmin Watch or Edge Computer
Already paired your strap with a Garmin watch or bike computer? The ID is stored right there:
- On your device, go to Settings → Sensors & Accessories.
- Select your heart rate monitor from the list.
- Open the sensor details or “About” page — the number shown as the Sensor ID is your ANT+ ID.
Menu names vary slightly between models, but the path is always through the sensors menu.
Method 3: Ask at the Front Desk (Older Straps)
Have an older ANT+-only strap, like the classic HRM3 or an early HRM-Run? These don’t broadcast Bluetooth, so the phone trick won’t work. In that case, your gym or coach can discover your sensor directly through the Group Fitness app.
To make this quick and unambiguous, wear the strap and stand close to the receiver while others keep their distance — your sensor will show up, and the staff can read the ID and link it to your profile on the spot.
